Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Book Review

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Book Review

This text may contain SPOILERS.

Synopsis: After a boring vacation at his muggle aunt and uncle's house, it's time for Harry Potter to go back to school. Things happen, however, to make Harry's return difficult. Persistent and cunning, the hero is undeterred by the obstacles and, with the help of his faithful Weasley friends, begins the school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There are many new things. New classmates, new teachers, many great discoveries and a great and dangerous challenge. Someone or something is threatening the safety and tranquillity of the members of Hogwarts.

Review: I was looking forward to "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", I enjoyed the first book in the Harry Potter saga, but author J.K. Rowling delivers a very scattered story.

"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" still has everything to make the reader fall in love with its world. The second volume is full of action, fantasy and creativity. There are many special moments in the book. Ron and his family, especially the twins, are endearing. I also found it interesting to see Harry's internal struggle to know whether he was really a Gryffindor or a Slytherin, and the reward later on about how it's our choices that show what we really are.

You can't help but be enchanted by the Harry Potter universe. Every aspect of this world is filled with magic and is so beautiful. I'll never tire of reading about Diagon Alley, or the Hogwarts parties, or Quidditch. Revisiting this world was very cool, even for me as an adult, but the discussion about the world here was left aside.

I have to confess that I didn't enjoy this book as much as I did the first one. The mystery was conveniently solved in the villain's explanatory monologue at the end. I missed Hermione. The whole story is limited almost entirely to Harry and Ron. Some of the new characters in the book I found simply unbearable.

"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is slow and unexciting. The first two-thirds or three-quarters of this book dragged. It was nice to return to that world, and the book is still a good choice for children, but I expected more from "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets".
